From begining to end, each project has a unique style to it, some are grinding physical excursions of repetition and some are complete freedom, loose reigns and the gift of being able to create without restriction.
This was that kind of job.
This was a wine cellar approximately 9 feet wide by 12 feet long. The exterior walls are whitewashed stone circa 1896 while the interior partition walls were constructed in the 40's.
Radiator pipes, waste pipes, water pipes oh my.
I used asphalt paper and pressure treated lumber for the floor joists as a precaution against moisture build-up.
As this project was to be a darkroom, I installed a bathroom vent that exhausts to the outside.
Pipes that couldn't be moved received blocking for sheetrock as tight as possible to avoid sacrificing any space.
Much effort went into framing as close to the exterior walls as possible.
The family dog sneaking down to say hi.
Some progress, what I call a blank slate.
The joy of sheetrock. I'm sure there is one, I just don't know where it is...
Some finishing touches include crown molding and customized door trim.
From the outside looking in.
Lightproofing and trim detail.
Workstation and cutting area.
This is under the drying area, and includes two fresh air intake vents.
The little vent pulls fresh air in from outside the room when the fan is running, it also aids in the drying of prints...
I really enjoyed creating this room, economical yet comfortable.
