Preparation is such a huge part of every project. The Kids needed access in the morning and at night, but I also had to have a sealed area to work in during demolition etc. The result is a temporary wall with a zippered door which remained in place for the duration of the job.
This is the bathroom before; the set-up was awkward and the fixtures as well as the marble flooring did not match the rest of the house. The owner, who does interior design, came up with a better layout as well as new fixtures to better reflect the time period of the house.
After gutting the room and disposing of a quarter ton of concrete that was under the marble, the electricians did their rough-in and I carefully shimmed out walls and floor joists to accept new surfaces.
New insulation under joists and the re-leveled floor.
I also put insulation around the new tub - it makes a difference when keeping the water warm.
To add to the excitement of a new bathroom, radiant heating was to be added under the new red oak flooring. To avoid nailing into the electric blanket I ripped 1/8 inch spacer strips and very carefully screwed each piece of flooring in place.
Before and after pictures of the side cabinet, the drawers are on full extension sliders and every spare inch was used to maximize storage.
The finished tub with new tile.
This is Hudson, he is so cute I can't stand it.
Many fun details in this job, but it was working with the owner that made this especially good.
I just can't imagine doing anything else. Well, I could be a rock star or a gymnast, but something about the smell of wood shavings in the morning...
